It’s always interesting to find out what’s on people’s nightstands, in the beach bag or on the “to read” list.
I just finished Kazuo Ishiguro’s Remains of the Day. I liked it, though I saw the “punch line” coming. It shares some similar themes to Atonement by Ian McEwan, and a setting in 20th century Britain, but I admit to liking McEwan’s book more.
I’m reading Laura Lippman’s latest Tess Monaghan mystery, Another Thing to Fall. I’ve read most of the others and enjoy the character as well as the Baltimore setting and the way it’s worked into the novel.
Next up is Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. I read No Country for Old Men and enjoyed it a lot (the movie, too). Laurie’s just finished The Road and recommends it.
My son’s reading Watchmen, reputed (and reviewed) to be the best graphic novel ever written, so I’m adding that to the list, as well.
What about you?

Q: Are you reading, or listening to your books?
Are you writing, or typing letters?
So little time in life, so much to do, how do we allocate the hour we have…

I read books the old fashioned way. Same way I like my newspapers. Crunchy to the touch. Though, I do a lot of research on the ol’ net and scan a paper or two on the screen, as well.
Anyway.
Right now, I’m reading “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Steig Larrson, a mystery imported from Sweden. And I’m reading “The Savage Detectives” by Roberto Bolano, a deceased expatriate Chilean, that’s about young radical poets in Mexico in the 1960s and ’70s.
